The Contractor has been waiting for drier weather and consistently warmer temperatures to comply with the surfacing material’s installation specifications. They anticipate the weather and temperature requirements will be met by April 17, so that they can begin work at the Cays Park location on that date.

Phase 1: Court 5 and the basketball court

    Phase 2: Courts 1 through 4.

Anticipated time at Cays Park: 25 working days after work begins. The newly resurfaced and restriped courts are expected to be completed by May 19, 2023. Once Cays Park is completed, the Contractor will move to the Library tennis courts, and then to the Tennis Center Complex.

As a result of the wet, cold weather the area has been experiencing lately, the City’s Court Resurfacing and Improvements Project has been slightly delayed. This project is important because the quality of play will be improved by refreshing the surfaces and restriping the City’s courts for tennis and pickleball. Because the material used in resurfacing is sensitive to moisture and temperature, the contractor must wait to apply the court surfaces in dry and warmer temperatures. Resurfacing a court is best done when the outside temperature is 50 degrees and rising for the duration of the surface installation. If the temperatures are too wet or cold, the surface won’t cure properly, and may lead to the surface cracking and additional repairs further down the line. Waiting for the correct temperatures will go a long way toward providing the best outcome for the community's courts.

The supplies and materials for the project have been delivered and the contractor anticipates work beginning in early April, barring weather-related issues.
