During the surface preparation, it was discovered that Courts 1. 2, and 8 at the Tennis Center have several pockets beneath the surface. To minimize the probability of future cracking and bubbling, additional work to grind the courts to bare concrete was authorized. The Contractor completed patching the divets and cracks after removing the old surface materials.

The City appreciates the tennis community’s patience and understanding over the noise and dust created during this phase. The contractor is currently (week of July 24) applying the resurface layers and plans to finish them by the end of next week. Once the surfaces have cured over the weekend, assuming all goes well, those courts will be available for play on Thursday, July 27.

The City contractor began work April 17 on Phase 1 at Cays Park Court 5 and the basketball court. During the footing excavation, the contractor found that the tennis court is made of post tensioned concrete. What this means is that in order to install the footings properly, the existing post tensioned cables within the concrete slab must be avoided. This caused a few days of delay to rework the footing sizes and locations.

    Work completed to date:

    • Pickleball net posts have been installed.
    • Pickleball barrier fence posts have been dug. Concrete footings will be poured after a City inspection.
    • Basketball court joints, primer, and green color coat have been completed.

    Upcoming activities this week:

    • Installation of pickleball fence and gates.
    • Resurfacing and striping of pickleball court 5.
    • Paint final blue color coat at free throw lane and circles on basketball court, followed by white striping.
